We would like to request the ability to assign a Unit of Measurement to materials and purchase order line items.
At the moment, materials and PO items are generally entered as a quantity and description, but there is no clear unit field to identify whether the quantity relates to items such as:
Each
Lineal metres
Square metres
Cubic metres
Litres
Hours
Rolls
Packs
Sheets
Boxes
For construction and trade-based businesses, this would be very useful when ordering materials, sending purchase orders to suppliers or subcontractors, and reviewing job costing.
For example, a PO line item may currently show:
Quantity: 20 Description: Floor tiles
However, it would be much clearer if it could show:
Quantity: 20 Unit: m²
Description: Floor tiles
This would reduce confusion between supervisors, suppliers, subcontractors, and admin staff, especially where the same material could be ordered by different units.
Ideally, the Unit of Measurement field could be:
Added to material items
Displayed on purchase order line items
Visible on printed or emailed purchase orders
Available as a dropdown with standard unit options
Customisable so businesses can add their own units where required
This would help improve accuracy in purchasing, reduce back-and-forth clarification, and make job costing clearer.
