Connecting Claude to WorkGuru via the MCP is straightforward and quickly allows Claude to securely assist with WorkGuru tasks.
Requirements
What You Need | Responsibilities | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Beta program enabled on your WorkGuru tenant. | WorkGuru support | AI assistant access is part of the Beta. Until it's on, every connection is refused |
Use AI Assistants (MCP) permission enabled for approved roles/users | Your WorkGuru admin | Only the Admin role has it enabled by default. Anyone else needs it enabled. |
A Claude account | You | Any Claude plan that supports custom connectors. Free plans are limited to one custom connector |
WorkGuru Login | You | Standard login. There's no API key or secret to create. |
Enable WorkGuru MCP Access
If you haven't already, request to join the MCP Beta by contacting WorkGuru support and ask for AI assistant access to be turned on for your account. Once enabled, choose who can connect. Edit each role that should be allowed and tick the Use AI Assistants (MCP) permission in the Pages tree. Note: The Admin role has it already. Removing it takes effect on the assistant's very next action, so there's nothing to revoke anywhere else.

To source the connection information required by Claude, go to the Integrations dashboard and open AI Assistant Access.

Copy the Endpoint address and the Client ID shown on the AI Assistant Access (MCP) page to use on the Claude side of the connection.

Connect Claude
Once you have the Endpoint and Client ID from WorkGuru, sign in to Claude and go to Customize -> Connectors and click Add -> Add Custom Connector.
Enter the Client ID and Endpoint address you copied from WorkGuru.

Note: If you are on a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, your organisation owner may have already connected the WorkGuru MCP as this only needs to be done once. If this is the case, simply look for the existing connector and click Connect. Each user who wants to use the assistant will need to follow this process to connect their Claude login to their WorkGuru login.

You will next be prompted to sign into WorkGuru or if already signed in, WorkGuru will prompt you to approve Claude's level of access:

WorkGuru shows the business areas Claude is asking to work in, such as sales, projects, purchasing and invoicing. Approving fewer areas is safe: it only narrows what the assistant can do. It never adds anything your account can't already do. Use the check boxes to select what you'd like the assistant to use and click Allow to confirm. When successfully connected you will be returned to Claude, ready to assist with WorkGuru specific questions.
