Kit Products

Modified on Mon, 3 Nov at 1:25 PM

Kit products allow you to create a product, which is made up of a quantity of other products (a bill of materials or BoM). This allows you to purchase, use or dispatch one product, and WorkGuru will automatically handle the stock movements of the kit's bill of materials in the background:

  • The kit product's stock on hand is a dynamic calculation based on the stock on hand of it's BoM products.  If one of the BoM products is out of stock, the kit product is out of stock.
  • Purchasing a kit product will increase the stock on hand of it's BoM products.
  • Using/Dispatching a kit product will decrease the stock on hand of it's BoM products.

It is recommended stock takes or stock adjustments are not done with the kit SKU.  Stock take or adjust the BoM products instead.

Note: Kit products are an optional function that is not enabled by default.  If you need kit product functionality, please contact the WorkGuru team at support@workguru.io

Create a Kit Product

Create a product and set its Tracking Type to Kit. Note: Existing products cannot be converted to kit products.

Save the changes and then click Edit Product. Kit products will now display the Bill of Materials tab. Select this tab and click Add Item to Bill of Materials for each product required to be included in this kit. Search and select the SKU and/or name and enter required Quantity. Save changes when finished.  Once saved the kit product's Cost Price will update with the combined cost of its BoM products.

Note: Only FIFO products can be included in the kit product's bill of materials.

Kit Product Stock on Hand and Usage

Kit products in WorkGuru are technically always disassembled. Once setup, the kit product's stock on hand is a dynamic calculation determined by the current stock on hand of its BoM products.  The kit product will always reflect the stock on hand of it's BoM products with the least amount in stock.

Kit products can be used on projects and production jobs and dispatched on stock sales as normal. The only thing that is different to a normal FIFO product is that it is automatically using or dispatching the kit's BoM products in the background correctly.

Note: It is currently recommended to NOT stock take or stock adjust the kit SKU. Count and adjust the bill of material product SKUs only to ensure the stock movements are correct.
